CRMC Joins with The Conservation Fund to Create e-BlueHorizons.com – Providing a Powerful Tool for Every American to Fight Global Warming

Greenhouse Gas EarthWith a few clicks of a mouse, every American - from CEOs to concerned parents - can neutralize the global warming impacts of virtually every slice of life at home and at work, from family vacations to routine business activities or “one-of-a-kind” community events. For as little as fifty dollars, the new website,
e-bluehorizons.com , enables individuals and organizations to counteract the effects of specific greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing and retiring verified emission “offsets” or “credits”.

The offsets are created through the capture and destruction of landfill methane – a greenhouse gas with a global warming potential 23 times greater than carbon dioxide – at projects owned and operated by CRMC subsidiaries. When offsets are created, they are typically registered and “banked” in anticipation of possible future re-sale or use. "Retiring" offsets means removing them from relevant registries and taking them permanently out of circulation along with any associated "right to pollute".

In addition to retiring offsets on behalf of its customers, e-Blue Horizons donates fifty percent of its proceeds to The Conservation Fund in support of the nonprofit group’s climate change initiative, which plants trees to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The Conservation Fund’s carbon sequestration program acquires unproductive agricultural land and then reforests it in an effort to combat climate change as well as restore wildlife habitat and expand recreation opportunities. As trees grow they absorb tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide, offering a simple, yet effective solution to global warming.

e-BlueHorizons hopes to attract individuals and organizations such as businesses, school groups, religious congregations, and community service organizations that want to become "climate neutral" by offsetting the global warming impacts of a specific business function, civic activity, or other aspect of their personal, professional, or community lives. The website features a simple tool that customers can use to estimate the quantity of carbon-dioxide emissions attributable to their personal lifestyle. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a typical two-family household is responsible for generating about 30 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

Users of e-BlueHorizons.com receive a certificate that documents the effect of their transaction. The certificate can be generated in the name of the purchaser or an “honoree”, which enables visitors to use the website as way to provide a unique wedding, birthday, or holiday gift to a family member or friend who shares the purchaser’s commitment to protecting the environment. Retiring offsets is also a simple and effective way to honor the professional or civic achievements of others.

The offsets available on e-BlueHorizons.com have been audited and verified through a rigorous monitoring and reporting protocol established for the program by an independent environmental organization, the Environmental Resources Trust, Inc. (“ERT”). Customers of e-BlueHorizons are able to confirm that as a result of their action, a specific set of serialized offsets have been retired on ERT’s GHG Registry® within 45 days from the date of the transaction by visiting http://www.ert.net.
